Prof. Erdoğan is political scientist, migration and EU specialist. He received his PhD degree from University Ankara University in political science with the dissertation “Turkey-EU Relationship after the Cold War: 1990-2005”. He conducted the research of his doctorate at the Universities of Freiburg and Bonn with a Konrad Adenauer Stiftung PhD scholarship.
Between 2000-2003, Prof. Erdoğan worked at Press Department at the Turkish Embassy in Berlin. Afterwards, he served as Advisor to the EU Harmonization Commission of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (2004), Advisor to the President of the Council of Higher Education-YÖK (2010-2011) and Advisor to the President of Hacettepe University (2012-2016). He was as guest researcher with different stipendium at the University of Duisburg-Essen (2008), Die Deutsche Gesellschaft für Auswärtige Politik e.V. Berlin (DGAP) (2009), Humboldt Univ., Berlin (2010), Oxford Univ. (2012), SWP (Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik in Berlin) (2013), Johns Hopkins Univ. (AICGS) in Washington DC (2014), again Humboldt University (2019). Prof. Erdoğan is member of UNESCO-Turkey, Member of ISC of Metropolis International.
His fields of interest are voluntary and forced migration, refugees, Turkey origin migrants in the world, diaspora policies, EU-Turkey Relationship, political behaviours, public opinion, Islamophobia, political cartoons, Germany and the Turkish foreign policy. Dr. Erdoğan is conducting comprehensive and regularly public opinion surveys titled "Euro-Turks-Barometer" for Turkish diaspora in Europe; "Syrian Barometer" for Syrians in Turkey.
